Here are some tips to help prevent frozen and broken pipes:

  • Remove hoses from outside faucets and install an insulated cover on the faucet
  • Insulate or install heat tape on pipes that are exposed to the elements
  • Drain or blow out irrigation systems
  • Close all foundation vents
  • Leave water trickling in all faucets, especially for faucet piping on exterior walls
  • Make sure to keep all bathroom doors open
  • Keep sink cabinet doors open
  • Turn the heat on in the pump house
  • Locate shut off valve or have one installed in case of emergencies

Here is what we recommend if you have a frozen pipe

Warm towels or blankets in the clothes dryer and then wrap them around the frozen pipe; repeat until water starts flowing.
